Freedom to love who you want .....

Yes, I believe that all persons should have the freedom to love who they want, but I fully believe that a marriage is between a man and a woman.

Same sex partners should be allowed to have a legal relationship and not have to hide in the closet, but that relationship should not be a marriage.

I just read this on my local new station's web site, and had to post it. I
may not be of the LDS faith, but I can appreciate their possible actions to help restore marriage to that of a man and a woman.

Mormons Recruit Out-Of-State For Prop. 8
Mormons Living Outside Calif. Asked To Volunteer For Phone Campaign

POSTED: 4:37 pm PDT October 8, 2008
UPDATED: 4:41 pm PDT October 8, 2008

SALT LAKE CITY -- Mormons living outside California have been asked to volunteer for a telephone campaign to help pass a ballot initiative on marriage there.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is part of a coalition of conservative groups backing Proposition 8, which would ban gay marriage in California's constitution. The measure will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Church elder L. Whitney Clayton said in a statement that members could be asked to call friends and family at home in California to encourage their support.

The campaign would be on an "if-needed" basis and will be tested, but may not be fully implemented.

The organizational effort comes at the request of the Protect Marriage coalition, Clayton said.

Clayton also said many students attending church-owned universities have asked how they might help and could be enlisted to make calls.

The church has branches of its Brigham Young University in Hawaii, Idaho and Utah.

Church officials said no calls have been made so far and the coalition had not yet decided whether to activate the inter-state phone network, the statement from Clayton said.

It's unclear what would trigger it.

There are about 770,000 Mormon church members in California.

A June letter from church President Thomas S. Monson asked California Mormons to give their time and money to pass Proposition 8.

The church holds up traditional marriage as a sacred institution ordained by God.

Mormons have been active participants in the campaign both as volunteers and financial contributors, giving an estimated 43 percent - some $8.4 million - to the Proposition 8 campaign, according to the Web site mormonsfor8.com.

The site is tracking campaign finance reports and trying to identify Mormons making individual contributions of $1,000 or more.

The church planned a satellite broadcast on Wednesday night to church buildings in California, Utah and other select locations so leaders can speak to members.

Topics will include participation in the coalition campaign and church marriage doctrine.

Besides Clayton, the broadcast is scheduled to include M. Russell Ballard and Quentin L. Cook, who are both members of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, the church's second-highest governing body.

Fear Factor

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --

The California state budget signed just last month is already in trouble because of the sinking economy and financial turmoil.

The worldwide credit crunch is endangering California's plans for what would usually be a routine 7 billion dollar loan to even out the tax flow into the state treasury.

The state is looking for options because of the tight credit markets.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is meeting with legislative leaders Wednesday to talk about what can be done. He and state legislative leaders may consider a special session this fall to deal with a new budget mess.

and if that isn't enough financial news to frustrate you:

Dow Plunges Despite Government Efforts
President Says Bailout Will Take Time

POSTED: 4:38 am PDT October 7, 2008
UPDATED: 1:17 pm PDT October 7, 2008

Wall Street has had yet another dismal day, extending its heavy losses as investors' worries about the financial sector wiped out early enthusiasm over the Federal Reserve's efforts to inject confidence into the credit markets. Trading remained fractious and grew more turbulent in the last hour, with the Dow Jones industrial average losing more than 500 points and all the major indexes falling more than 5 percent.

This latest plunge, which followed a big drop on Monday, came after Bank of America Corp. reported its third-quarter profits fell 68 percent. The market's gloom was also fed by comments from Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, who warned that the financial crisis could prolong the difficulty the economy is facing.

Thursday Thoughts

Okay ~ I am NOT endorsing, or stating any alignment to either of the Presidential candidates or their choices for Vice President, but ~ when I read this (the text of Palin's speech) on KCRA this morning, I have to admit I had chills and tears. Whether or not those were good chills and tears I am reserving to myself, but here is the text of the speech that moved me:

Congratulations to Tyler Lopez!

While reading the Roseville Press-Tribune last night, I came upon an article that filled me with immense pride:

School News & Notes

Woodcreek grad enters doctorate program

Roseville resident Tyler Steven Lopez has been accepted to attend the University of San Diego to pursue a jurisdoctor.

Lopez graduated from Woodcreek High School in 2002. In 2006, he graduated from UC San Diego with a major in management science and a minor in political science. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Tyler is the son of Debbie and Fabian Lopez and brother to Ashlee, Kelsie and Larra.

I know Tyler's parents, we all went to high school together. Deb is an incredibly kind, warm-hearted, and fun loving person. She embraces life fully and is not afraid of a challenge.

I have always admired Deb and Fabian's parenting skills and their focus on allowing their children to grow into strong minded, highly productive, mature, responsible adults.

My hat is off to Deb and Fabian for raising GREAT children.

Congratulations to TYLER!
Along with feeling very proud of you, I have to admit, this article made me feel "OLD." I remember this child as a baby and dragging him with us to high school football games. I remember him in elementary school with our niece, Jessica. I remember him in junior high and graduating from high school. He has always been a special kid.

John Edwards is SLIME!

By PETE YOST, Associated Press Writer 9 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday admitted to an extramarital affair while his wife was battling cancer. He denied fathering the woman's daughter. Edwards told ABC News that he lied repeatedly about the affair with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter but said that he didn't love her.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080808/ap_on_el_pr/edwards_affair

What, so because he did not love the woman he had an affair with, it's okay?

That is like saying "I didn't inhale"

Come on people! This is morally wrong, period.

The story is false," he told reporters. "It's completely untrue, ridiculous." He professed his love for his wife, Elizabeth, who had an incurable form of cancer, saying, "I've been in love with the same woman for 30-plus years and as anybody who's been around us knows, she's an extraordinary human being, warm, loving, beautiful, sexy and as good a person as I have ever known. So the story's just false."

I hope that Edwards' wife divorces him, citing adultery.

Yes, I allowed it!

Yes, I allowed it to happen.

I allowed Amanda change her decision and be released from her commitment to the Dance Company. I have to admit this was a very emotional decision for me. Manda has been dancing on a dance Company since she was 9. Company is an all encompassing dance which is taken to competitions and performances as a production number. These numbers are 7 - 9 minutes long, have great music, lots of costume changes, props and sets, and require lots of hard work and dedication on the part of the Company members, instructors and directors, parents and family.

Amanda's dance company experiences have been wonderful. With the exception of the year from HELL! And, all of the dances (except for Singing in the Rain) have been so much fun to watch evolve into a polished production that takes the stage by storm.

With the exception of the one year in Hell, Manda has always danced for Carrie and Lisa whom she loves. Don't get me wrong, she liked Apryl from Perpetual Motion, but Apryl was a great teacher and a wonderful dancer. As a business owner, she was off beat and out of step. If if had not be for the wonderful and exceptionally talented Erin Goodrich, we would have abandoned that sinking ship almost from the moment it sprung a leak. But I digress.

Amanda has enjoyed being a part of a wonderful team of talented dancers in:

Welcome to the Jungle
(Carrie On Dance Company, Carrie's Studio of Dance)

Singing in the Rain
(the year from HELL!)
(the Motion Dancers, Perpetual Motion)

Moulin Rouge
Wipe Out
High School Home Coming
On the Radio
(The Company Dance AllStars, Cast and Company Dance Alliance)

Manda will still be proudly dancing for Cast and Company Dance Alliance, and she will still be on the Elite Tap Company under the direction of Lisa Clement (who is one awesome choreographer!)

Amanda is not closing the door on re-joining for the Company in the future she is just taking a break, adjusting to becoming more involved as a Viking at OHS, and enjoying the extra curricular activities which are an important part of being a teen. She wants to participate actively with Mock Trial, Teens for Humanity and the Juvenile Court program of Placer County.

In the mean time, you'll still be able to hear the tapping of her happy feet!

911 not for making complaints

I saw this article and had to absolutely chuckle over how one person felt it was appropriate to use 911:

How sick and twisted!

How sick and twisted does one have to be to behead someone?

I read this filled with horror for all the innocent people involved. May the deceased rest in peace, may his family remember him with loving thoughts and find comfort and peace in his memories. I hope the other passengers and driver on the bus find comfort and seek professional help to recover from this horrific trauma.

Calif. Prescription Card Offers Up To 75% Discount

This was in my email today. Thank you to Maria Angel Garcia for sharing!

From Channel 13 News, July 25, 2008:

Calif. Prescription Card Offers Up To 75% Discount
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ― A new prescription drug card program gives California consumers discounts of up to 75 percent at pharmacies statewide. The California Drug Card Program is different from government and other private discount programs because it is not limited to low-income people or senior citizens. Anyone is eligible, regardless of income, membership or age. The initiative from United Networks of America was initially aimed at the uninsured and underinsured, but the card can also be used by those whose health plans offer little or no drug benefits. The free card can be downloaded and printed by logging onto a Web site, and is accepted at most big chains and independent pharmacies. Click here to go to the website for the prescription discount card.
