She had participated in an event at her school. It was a staff memeber dance / tribute to Michael Jackson's Thriller. When I found out the dance had been video taped and was on youtube, I knew I had to post it!

So ---- here it is!!! Enjoy! The staff did a great job, I would have loved to have seen this performance in person:

Penelope Lane

One of my friends / co-workers is having a baby before the end of the year.

I am really excited for Jessica and Bryan! They are a totally cute couple and will make awesome parents.

Jessica is the nanny of "Master's" children B and T. She is wonderful with them and has been with them for a few years. Manda gets to spend plenty of time in her company also and she always says how sweet Jessica is.

Jessica and Bryan had this amazing New Year's Eve wedding which I had the pleasure of taking B and T to. The wedding was done in red, white and black with a very cool night club type theme - NOT tacky and NOT gaudy --- very elegant, and very fun. I have to say, it was truly a wonderful way to usher in 2008.

Jessica's shower was this weekend. Manda and I crashed and went with Jill, T, and Grandma Lil.

The shower was in Elk Grove in this pretty little neighborhood. At the shower guests had the opportunity to decorate (using Tulip paints) a onesie for the baby on the way. It was such a cute idea!

I loved being able to share something "handmade" as a keepsake for the baby.

Penelope Lane will be born before the end of the year and Jessica has started a pool on her blog.

I don't think Penelope will wait till Thanksgiving to make her entrance into the world, and neither does Manda, so here are our best guesses:

Robin says: Wednesday, November 19 8pm - 11:59pm
Manda's guess: Monday, November 24 8am - 11:59am

I am a "sucker"

.... Oh yeah ..... I caved!

Manda has been totally missing her beloved kitty Pebbles since she disappeared over a month ago. Pebs was a tortoiseshell with what we affectionately refer to as: "torti-tude." She was spunky and independent and full of sass and personality.

Manda and Russ had already been to the SPCA several times, but I firmly refused to go, and was stubbornly standing my ground about bringing a new feline fur member home -- "No!"

That was until we saw the Auburn Cat House advertisement in the newspapers this weekend. That is where we got Pebs from 8 years ago. It must have been "meant to be," as when we called they had a torti whom needed a home.

We talked about it as a family and decided to wait. That was until Grandma Irene called and wanted to know what Manda wanted for her upcoming sweet 16th birthday. Well ..... now that you ask, and I am not standing right in front of the child...

So, Russ went and picked up his mom and they drove to Auburn, where they picked out a totally adorable 4 month old tortoiseshell kitty.

Manda is in love with her new kitten ~ her name is Harvest and she is adorable!

Of course, I too, love the new kitty ~~ but Harley is still my boy. And, no matter what anyone thinks, I think HE is still "the" cat of the house. He is soooo cute, and so adorable and he has me wrapped around his sweet little whiskers.

Harley thinks that Harvest is smelly and tiny and annoying as all get out. Harvest thinks that Harley is a big bully and she just wants to sleep in his favorite spot and play. I think they will learn to get along.

Yesterday morning I found Harvest asleep on Manda's bed, and Harley keeping a close eye on the nearby bookshelf.

This morning, Harvest was still confined to the bathroom, and Harley was firmly holding court in the center of Manda's bed, looking quite content.

Of course, once Harvest was running free that chase was on. and Harley was determined to show Miss Harvest just who is the head cat of the household.

What's for lunch?

Well, thanks to a timely phone call from Master ~ that was answered for me today.

"Hey Bob, can you get me some lunch, please?"

Master has been eating VERY healthy
and really watching his over-all physical well-being,
so instead of even thinking I could decide what to feed him today
(yes, I do know his preferences fairly well after 17 years,)
I thought it would be best to have him decide.

"Sure Master, anything in particular you want?"

"I could really go for a GYRO." (pronounced "YEE-ROH")

Hmmmm .... I am a food lover, and can usually figure out where to go to fully satisfy just about any type of request; but this one, well ~ it stumped me.

"Okay Master, where do I find you such a creature in Roseville?"

"There is a place called the Pita Pit over on Eureka, they have them."

"Okay cool, I'll get lunch!"

I logged onto Google to see if the Pita Pit had a web-site,
and being a savvy restaurant,
they do:

http://www.pitapitusa.com/

Mmmmmmmm .... just reading their menu online sold me, and then actually walking in the door of this little place made my mouth water. It smelled really good, and it was spotless (And let's face it, that is always a plus when dealing with food!)

I ordered each our GYRO's (with seasoned lamb and beef strips) on a wheat pita.

Masters' had shredded lettuce, red onions, green peppers, cucumbers, pickles, salt & pepper, cheddar cheese and a creamy cucumber sauce called Tzatziki.

Mine had hummus, avocado, shredded lettuce, romaine lettuce, fresh spinach, cucumbers, sprouts, feta cheese and the cool creamy cucumber sauce, Tzatziki.

While the really nice guy behind the counter was assembling my pita, he asked me if I really like hummus, and when I responded that I do, he asked if I had ever tried the babaganoush. I had not. So, he grabbed a few cucumbers and spread them with the babaganoush.

YUM!!!! I really like hummus, but the babaganoush which is made with an eggplant base is even more flavorful and yummy. I will definitely be having that on my pita the next time.

When my order was complete and wrapped, I thanked the staff and came back to the office. When I unpacked my order, there was a little side car of babganoush and a small stack of 10 cucumbers tucked in my carrier bag. How sweet was that?

My gyro pita was DEVINE! I ate every bite and did not have that over full, bloated, why did I eat every bite feeling.

Thanks, Master for creating a monster! I think I've just added a new favorite place to order lunches from.

Monkey Business

Once upon a time in a place overrun with monkeys, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.

The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them.

The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, they became harder to catch, so the villagers stopped their effort.

The man then announced that he would now pay $20 for each one.

This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.

But soon the supply diminished even further and they were ever harder to catch, so people started going back to their farms and forgot about monkey catching.

The man increased his price to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so sparse that it was an effort to even see a monkey, much less catch one.

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys for $50!

However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his behalf.

While the man was away the assistant told the villagers, "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has bought. I will sell them to you at $35 each and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each."

The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys.

They never saw the man nor his assistant again and once again there were monkeys everywhere.

Now you have a better understanding of how the stock market works.

Have you ever ...

... had one of those nights where you have a "ton" of "things" that "have to get done" but none of them end up getting done?

I did last night! I had so much stuff on my "To Do" list, but none of it got done. I had been battling a headache all afternoon, and by the time I picked up Manda and she drove us home, the headache was taking over. (I hate it when a head ache wins!)

Knowing that Manda was hungry, had homework to do and needed to be in bed before 11:30, and that there was no way I was cooking, we stopped at KFC and picked up chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy. We got home, added a green salad and ate a nice warm dinner.

My head was pounding, and I really wanted to tackle my "To Do" list, so I ice packed my neck and shoulders, sat in the recliner and put my feet up, figuring that after a 1/2 hour of ice I'd be able to function. That was until the cat jumped up into my lap and snuggled in for his after dinner cat nap.

So much for my "To Do" list! The cat and I both fell asleep. Manda woke me about thirty minutes later when my ice packs were starting to melt. I woke up long enough to kiss my sweet daughter good night and zombie walked down the hall to bed.

It was only 8:00 pm! Oh well .... off to zombie land sleep my headache and I went.

Too bad I still have the headache. I slept well though.

Friday Night Lights

Tonight I am going with my daughter to her high school's football game. This may not sound blog worthy, but I am already getting a chuckle out of the event. "Why?" you may ask; well because I grew up here in Roseville.

Granted, I am a transplant from another northern California location (that is a WHOLE different topic,) but we moved here when I was just 13, and I fell in love with (at the time) the little city that is Roseville. The people are friendly and I instantly felt like I was "HOME." At the time I moved here there was 1 junior high school and 2 high schools.

As an eighth grade student I attended Warren T. Eich Junior High School. And, even though I was a "newby" I never felt like an outsider, and I quickly discovered that all though every one was friends on campus, there were imaginary battle lines drawn --- between the rival high schools.

You were either:

a Roseville Tiger or;
an Oakmont Viking .....

I was a Roseville Tiger (graduating class of 1985)

I was totally proud of those Tiger roots and vowed that no child of mine would ever be a Viking. When my husband and I were looking at places to live, I very carefully reviewed boundary lines, researched the elementary schools and (the now 3, or is it 4? ) junior high schools in the City School District, and compared notes on the schools (there are now 4) in the Roseville High School Joint Union High School District.

Then it happened. I found a house I knew I wanted to live in, and it was inside the boundary lines of Oakmont High School. Manda was only 11 months at the time, so I figured that I had four years in which to fall out of love with my house and MOVE to the other side of the district so that she could go to school with other future Tigers.

Well, so much for that plan! Manda started elementary school at Crestmont Elementary and loved being a Coyote.

Then she moved on to Warren T. Eich Middle School, where she found her personal stride as a WILDCAT. She was on the Flag/Drill team for one year, and the next year she was the proud editor of the WILDCAT yearbook. It was really cool to have Manda attending a school that I had also attended. A few of the same teachers are still there (or involved in the school board.)

Last year Manda became a very proud freshman at OHS. Yes, she is a Viking! And, yes, she is a PROUD royal blue wearing, Oakmont Viking. Both of our cars have the Oakmont "O" on them, and her school spirit is only overshadowed by her school involvement. She participates in "A" Teens, Link Crew, Teens for Humanity, Mock Trial and several others that I can not remember.

So tonight, we will attend the OHS vs RHS football game at Roseville High School. We will sit on the visitors side, and I will cheer loudly for the VIKINGS ("Here Kitty-Kitty, Here Kitty-Kitty, Here Kitty-Kitty ~ SMACK!)~ because I am a proud parent of a wonderful Oakmont Viking -----

yea .... never say never --- it always comes back to bite ya!

Ugh!!! It's that time of year

.... just early Fall and already I can hear more sniffling and sneezing everywhere around me.

Even Manda started in a few days ago ~ and I immediately made her start in on her prescribed allergy / asthma routine. Hopefully this year she won't be as miserable as she was last year. She is on a new allergy medication: Zyrtec which seems to be working well for her.

And, her new glasses will help for those days when the allergens make wearing her contacts uncomfortable.

Wednesday Fun

Just because it's Wednesday, and I have nothing more exciting to blog about today, I have decided to treat you to one of my favorite YouTube videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxDmXXLVRSM

(I did not embed it for my own personal reasons ~~~~ I'm pretty sure some people will understand)

And, because I really could not resist, I had to post this video of one of the dances from "In the Mix 2008" This was an amazing, incredible, totally wonderful dance - I think everyone should have a chance to see it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXiUe_3pb9A

That video I fully planned on embedding, but the HTML editor did not any of the tricks I tried, so I apologize ~ but I promise ~ its worth clicking on to see the incredible talent of these high school dancers.

Tagged!

My friend Jessica tagged me -
and I have to list 7 things about myself that no one else knows (or not many people know).

So here goes!

1) I am shy. (Yes, I hide it behind the sarcasm)

2) I think the the glass is half full, I wear rose colored glasses, and I do believe that most people are basically "good."

3) I can not stand to watch scary movies.

4) I was the pop corn girl when my mom managed a movie theater. I popped 100's of bags of popcorn every night. But, since I was only 12 at the time, I used my grandmother's name and social security number. To this day, I love freshly popped pop corn! YUM!

5) I used to be able to run up and down a flight of bleacher stairs with ice skates on.

6) I am near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other.

7) When I was pregnant with Manda, I ate liverwurst and pickle on a toasted english muffin for lunch every day.

I tag:

Mmmmm! Delicious!!!!!!!

My Mom was here yesterday for a lightening fast visit. While she was here we went to lunch at Lenny's (our favorite sub shop) then ran a few errands, picked Manda up from school and went shopping at Mom's favorite clothing store Cristopher & Banks.

For dinner Mom us this really delicious, very tasty Minestrone Soup.
The house smelled divine while she was slaving over the stove; but even the scent of the cooking soup did not do the flavor full justice.

This is a recipe we will be using again. It was not hard to make, is good on a budget, is pretty healthy and is nice an filling with out leaving you feeling bloated. I can not wait for dinner tonight, we are having left-over soup!

After dinner last night, Mom gave us our anniversary present: A beautiful lamp which tucks behind our couch and has 5 over head "light streamers"
It's a beautiful piece of furniture in and of it's own right, but together with my living room, its stunning!

Thanks Mom for the love, the laughter, the illumination of our living room, the books and of course for this wonderful soup!

Minestrone Soup

Get everything ready first, then put together

3 Sweet Italian Sausage links, casing removed.
(Used potato masher to flatten and separate while browning.)

4 Thick slices of bacon chopped. (I used scissors to cut about 3/4 wide.)
Combine with and brown with the sausage.

1 Small onion (I used yellow)
5 cloves of garlic chopped, add to meat just before it's browned.

2 cups sliced carrots:
Add to the meat after it's browned, cook a few minutes; then add

1 cup chopped celery and cook few minutes more.

Then in large pot:

1 can diced fine stewed tomatoes in basil. (I broke mine up with my fingers.)
2 large, plus1 small can Swanson chicken broth

Add the following ingredients to the above and then cook till the veggies are almost done,
( I used low heat after adding everything. )

1/4 of a head of cabbage, chopped

4 cups of sliced zucchini--about 3 small

1/2 bag of fresh spinach, used scissors again to chop up

Salt & pepper (to taste)

Italian Seasoning, just about 3/4 teaspoon

Cook till everything is done then add:

1 can sliced potatoes, diced up

1 can cannellini beans, drained (if you can not find cannelloni beans, used white beans)

1 cup small elbow or tubetini pasta cooked

Cook till the last ingredients are heated.

Serve with freshly grated Parmesan or Romano Cheese and French bread

Freedom to love who you want .....

Yes, I believe that all persons should have the freedom to love who they want, but I fully believe that a marriage is between a man and a woman.

Same sex partners should be allowed to have a legal relationship and not have to hide in the closet, but that relationship should not be a marriage.

I just read this on my local new station's web site, and had to post it. I
may not be of the LDS faith, but I can appreciate their possible actions to help restore marriage to that of a man and a woman.

Mormons Recruit Out-Of-State For Prop. 8
Mormons Living Outside Calif. Asked To Volunteer For Phone Campaign

POSTED: 4:37 pm PDT October 8, 2008
UPDATED: 4:41 pm PDT October 8, 2008

SALT LAKE CITY -- Mormons living outside California have been asked to volunteer for a telephone campaign to help pass a ballot initiative on marriage there.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is part of a coalition of conservative groups backing Proposition 8, which would ban gay marriage in California's constitution. The measure will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Church elder L. Whitney Clayton said in a statement that members could be asked to call friends and family at home in California to encourage their support.

The campaign would be on an "if-needed" basis and will be tested, but may not be fully implemented.

The organizational effort comes at the request of the Protect Marriage coalition, Clayton said.

Clayton also said many students attending church-owned universities have asked how they might help and could be enlisted to make calls.

The church has branches of its Brigham Young University in Hawaii, Idaho and Utah.

Church officials said no calls have been made so far and the coalition had not yet decided whether to activate the inter-state phone network, the statement from Clayton said.

It's unclear what would trigger it.

There are about 770,000 Mormon church members in California.

A June letter from church President Thomas S. Monson asked California Mormons to give their time and money to pass Proposition 8.

The church holds up traditional marriage as a sacred institution ordained by God.

Mormons have been active participants in the campaign both as volunteers and financial contributors, giving an estimated 43 percent - some $8.4 million - to the Proposition 8 campaign, according to the Web site mormonsfor8.com.

The site is tracking campaign finance reports and trying to identify Mormons making individual contributions of $1,000 or more.

The church planned a satellite broadcast on Wednesday night to church buildings in California, Utah and other select locations so leaders can speak to members.

Topics will include participation in the coalition campaign and church marriage doctrine.

Besides Clayton, the broadcast is scheduled to include M. Russell Ballard and Quentin L. Cook, who are both members of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, the church's second-highest governing body.

Hmmmmm

What is is about these two songs that makes me smile?

Is it the catchy beats?

Is it because the team captain of my high school made us twirl our flags endlessly to them, making us "hit" a mark with each and every beat of the song?

Is it because they remind me of high school?

Who knows.... I just know that I like them both:

Fear Factor

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --

The California state budget signed just last month is already in trouble because of the sinking economy and financial turmoil.

The worldwide credit crunch is endangering California's plans for what would usually be a routine 7 billion dollar loan to even out the tax flow into the state treasury.

The state is looking for options because of the tight credit markets.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is meeting with legislative leaders Wednesday to talk about what can be done. He and state legislative leaders may consider a special session this fall to deal with a new budget mess.

and if that isn't enough financial news to frustrate you:

Dow Plunges Despite Government Efforts
President Says Bailout Will Take Time

POSTED: 4:38 am PDT October 7, 2008
UPDATED: 1:17 pm PDT October 7, 2008

Wall Street has had yet another dismal day, extending its heavy losses as investors' worries about the financial sector wiped out early enthusiasm over the Federal Reserve's efforts to inject confidence into the credit markets. Trading remained fractious and grew more turbulent in the last hour, with the Dow Jones industrial average losing more than 500 points and all the major indexes falling more than 5 percent.

This latest plunge, which followed a big drop on Monday, came after Bank of America Corp. reported its third-quarter profits fell 68 percent. The market's gloom was also fed by comments from Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, who warned that the financial crisis could prolong the difficulty the economy is facing.

Don't sit on the couch.....

I love Jamba Juice! This morning as I drug myself out of bed and realized that my throat hurt, my nose was stuffy and I felt generally run down, I knew exactly where I was going after I dropped Manda off at school: Jamba Juice!

This morning I treated my self to the Mango-a-go-go TM with Passion Fruit-Mango juice, mangos, pineapple and sherbert with an Immunity TM boost as an extra added benefit.

My Jamba Juice cup features this "jambaism:"

"jambaisim #15... Life experiences are like quarters, you lose both when you are sitting around on the couch."

Rain, Jury Duty and Pebbles

Yes, totally random items - Rain, Jury Duty and Pebbles. What do those 3 things have in common?

Rain

Well, it apparently rained a bit last night, just enough to dirty the cars that my hubby had washed over the weekend, but not enough that the streets were very damp this morning. Usually rain means a busy day for Russ behind the wheel and at the controls of his tow truck.

But apparently, it was here and gone in a blink of an eye and we must have slept through it.
Please, can we have more rain? Our entire region is facing a severe draught. We need rain.

Jury Duty

Russ has been on Jury Duty this week. So far he has just had to call all week. But, I think his number is up, and he is going to have to go today or tomorrow as a potential jury member. He is really upset by this. It is not that he does not want to do his civic duty, its just that when he sits still with nothing to do but listen to conversation he gets bored, and falls asleep. Not only that, he freely admits that his train of thought wanders to other things he'd rather be doing. And, there is also his concern that if he is not physically working, he won't earn his wages. And let's face it, in today's economy ~ that is just not what we need at this time.

Pebbles

Pebbles is our daughter's 8 year old tortoiseshell cat. She is big and fluffy and extremely beautiful. Her coat is a rich myriad of dark brown, warm golden brown, tan, orange, black, caramel and even a few follicles of white here and there. Her paws are all a deep rich cocoa color, and she has one of the most adorable "meows" when she is being nice and wants something.

Pebbles is not known for being nice. She is one of the most cantankerous cats I have ever been owned by. She hisses, spits, yells and screams in her native language of cat. If she wants something and her needs are not met at once, she stomps across the floor hissing and spitting fire as she goes. Sometimes if we reach out to pet her, she'll attempt to remove our fingers with her claws or teeth, other times she'll purr sweetly and rub up against you with affection.

Pebbles adores Manda and Manda adores Pebbles. Pebbles is Manda's "baby" and follows our daughter through out the house, sleeps with her, sits on the toilet while Manda is doing her hair for school .... lays across her homework, etc.

Pebbles is missing. She has been gone for a week, and we are upset and worried.

Happy Wednesday

I need a nap....

Don't know if it is because I ate too much at Leatherby's last night,
or if it is just because.

But whatever the reason, a nap is not going to happen.

Break over, back to work I go!
